This tea cup from Kutani, Japan, is handmade and hand painted with the design of an oni. Oni are Japanese trolls that appear frequently in folktales and mythology.  The writing on the side reads 思いたったが吉日 which is an idiom meaning "The day you think of something is a lucky day to get started on it". Kutani is famous for the vibrant hand painted ceramics which have been produced in the region for centuries. This cup also comes with a hand painted kiribako wooden box signed by the artist, Takako.
