CAST IRON TEAPOTS

We have recently changed our supplier for cast iron teapots. Due to supply chain issues, we were required to look for another supplier that could provide an equally good if not better product. We are so please to be able to offer the beautiful cast-iron teapots and kettles from Hisanori Masuda. Unlike our previous supplier which was a larger company, Mr. Masuda designs and casts his own wares in his workshop. We are so fortunate to have found this wonderful artist who has continued the traditional craft of cast-iron wares, but given them a more contemporary design.

Hisanori Masuda was born in 1949 in Shizuoka, Japan. He studied at the Musashino University of Art (Fine Arts and Design) Mr. Masuda worked as a studio assistant to his professor for 5 years to master the craft of casting wares. He later moved to Yamagata City and established his own studio in 1997. His work seeks to recreate objects retaining the beauty of traditional Japanese cast iron but stylishly adapted to fit contemporary life-style. Using iron, aluminum and bronze, he designs, produces and sells all his own work. He is currently a member of Japan Craft Design Association. He teaches at Tohoku University of Art and Design and Yamagata University in the department of education. Mr. Masuda has received many awards and his works can be found in exhibits and museums internationally.

We are pleased to carry a wide range of his teapots in the shop and will be bringing in a greater selection after the summer.
